What this site collects, which is close to nothing

A plain account of what happens when you read these pages, what leaves your browser, and what we could find out about you if we tried. There is no mailing list and no account to create.

The short version

Reading Socket Sense does not require an account, a name, an email address or a payment method, and the site offers none of those things. There is no newsletter, because there is no email service behind one. There is no comment section, no quiz, no calculator that keeps what you typed, and no upload box. The pages are static files.

Health information in particular

The topics here are medical, and people search them from a position of some distress. So it matters that this site asks for nothing about your health, stores nothing about your health, and has no mechanism by which anything about your mouth could reach us. Do not email us clinical details either; we cannot use them and would rather not hold them.

Files and measurement

Our own pages place no advertising or profiling identifiers in your browser. The fonts are served from this domain rather than a font network, so reading a page does not announce you to a third party. If our host keeps ordinary server records — an address, a page, a timestamp, the kind of thing every web server writes — that is infrastructure logging, kept to run and secure the site, and it is not joined to anything else or sold.

Two links on this site go to companies that pay us if somebody buys from them. Both are on pages about paying for treatment, and both are labelled in the paragraph above them. When you click one, you leave this site; from that moment the other company's own privacy terms govern, and they can see what any website sees about a visitor. We are told whether a purchase happened. We are not told who you are, and we never learn what you read here before you clicked.

The full list of what we take and what we refused is on the disclosure page.

Children

Some of these pages concern treatment given to teenagers, and one of the fee schedules prices children's lines separately. The site is written for the adult reading it — a patient, a parent, somebody sitting up with a teenager at two in the morning. It is not aimed at children and collects nothing from anybody of any age.

Changes, and how to ask

If this policy changes we will rewrite it here rather than bolt an addendum to the end. Because we hold no personal records, there is generally nothing for us to show you, correct or delete; if you think otherwise, write to [email protected] and say what you think we have, and we will tell you honestly.
